Desirae “The Silent Poet” Hosley was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Known for being the quietest person on the scene, it’s astounding to see such a little lady with a big voice that packs a powerful punch. Leader of the new teen poetry generation, Desirae is a Program Coordinator for Northside’s creative writing and literacy center, WordPlay Cincy. She is a published author, spoken word artist, community organizer, and actress. She has hosted her own open mics in East Price Hill and Northside to open the door for creative expression. She was Artist -In-Residence for Price Hill Community Festival in 2016. Drawing on her experiences as a peer advocate and rape crisis counselor, it’s no wonder her poetry sits close to home with many listeners. Desirae is known and applauded for the unapologetic truth to the words that come out of her mouth, and this fearlessness enables her to attain many of her great accomplishments.

When the wind blows
When the wind blows
I will not shudder from discomfort
Waiting for warmth to appear
For Mother Nature wants me to know she is near.
When the wind blows
I will embrace the feeling of freedom
Flying gracefully beside
Taking away all of my lows
While lifting me high.
When the wind blows
I want to feel peace
Acknowledge the ability to breathe in life
As its purpose will bring hope to lifeless moments
That try to keep me still.
When the wind blows
I will fly away
Take each step
Weightless, loving, appreciative
That this wind chose me.
